It was in Roethlisberger's hometown where his foundation took root. In 2006, Flip, the town's K-9 police dog, was shot and killed. Some of the guys on the force, old school buddies of Ben, called with the news. His dad, Ken, suggested that Ben might help.And this is how his foundation was born. He did. And he was hooked.
"I've always been a dog person, so it just made sense to do this for my hometown. A couple of months later, my dad asked, 'Wouldn't it be nice to buy a dog for every city that you play in?'"
